The collection contains correspondence, 1885-1911; speeches, 1852-1893 in Richmond, Va., and at the University of Virginia; letters, notes, and speeches, 1883, concerning the Democratic Party campaign to elect members of the Virginia General Assembly, and riots in Danville and South Boston, Va.; and a letter from Joseph Reid Anderson, 1859, to Dr. Froebel concerning land in Allegany County, Md. Correspondents include Philip Alexander Bruce, Isobel Lamont Stewart Bryan (concerning Joseph Reid Anderson), James Bryce, Algernon Sidney Buford, Richard Alexander Dunlop, Worthington Chauncey Ford, James Alfred Jones, Fitzhugh Lee, Dabney Herndon Maury, Andrew Jackson Montague, Thomas Taylor Munford, Thomas Potts, Sarah Nicholas Randolph (concerning a monument of Robert E. Lee in Richmond executed by Marius Jean Antonin Mercie), Leigh Robinson, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft. Campaign correspondents include William F. Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870) served as General of the Confederate Army in the U.S. Civil War and was president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia from 1865 to 1870.
